2006
Selim Bacıoğlu and Murat Sümer had raced with a Mitsubishi Evo 8 in the first three
rallys of the 2006 seaon. Duo raced in the Fiat Rally; a leg of the European Championship
and finished in an impressive 12th spot. Following a short break, Selim raced in the ‘Green
Bursa Rally’ with Subaru Rally Team Turkey but was not able to finish due to technical
difficulties. Bacıoğlu raced with a Subaru Impreza N12 in the three leg İstanbul
Championship. By winning the first two stages he became the ‘youngest
driver to win a rally in Turkey’. Although he got out of the road and was
forced to leave the rally on the final leg of the championship he got the title of the
‘İstanbul Gr. N Championship’ and received the second place in the İstanbul
Championship.
2005
Selim Bacıoğlu has decided to race with Citroen C2 in
cooperation with Atölye Kazaz to win the Turkish Rally Championship in A6 category in
2005 yet he struggled with technical failures throughout the season. Selim became the
first in three rallies out of the four that he was able to complete and became the second
in the other. Selim ended the season in the second place in A6 group since his car could
not be transferred to Cyrus for the last rally due to the bad weather conditions.
2004
Representing Fiat Abarth Motorsports both in rally and in circuit, Selim Bacıoğlu
achieved the title of champion for the second time in Turkish Circuit Championship by
finishing in the firts place at 5 races out of 6.
Selim Bacıoğlu gained experience in the rallies that he raced with Murat Sümer in 2004,
which was their first year of rally, and achieved a great success by participating in the
leg of Turkey of World Rally Championship at the age of 18, which was an important step in
his career. Selim laid the foundations of the following rally season by racing in the last
rally of the Turkish Rally Championship, the Rally of Kocaeli, with Palio Super 1600.
2003
Representing the Fiat Abarth Motorsports team alone on the race track in 2003, Selim had a
very challenging season. Participating to five races with Palio Kit-Car and one race with
Punto Kit-Car, he won the 'Group 1600 Circuit Championship of Turkey' 32 points
ahead of his nearest rival.
At the age of 17, Selim Bacıoğlu became the youngest champion in the history of
Turkish motorsports.
2002
Beginning his carrier on the circuit at the age of 16 with a Fiat Palio Kit-Car
sponsored by Fiat Abarth Motorsports Team; he took top positions in Group
1600 starting from the very first race. Ahead of many experienced competitors, Selim
finished second in the third and fourth races and won his first race in the fifth leg. In
the last race he took the pole position. But this race ended unfortunately in
disappointment with the loss of the championship due to the wrong choice of tires. As a
result Selim took the second place in Turkish Circuit Championship.
Selim managed to be the youngest pilot to win an automobile race in Turkey.
2001
Selim took the second place in Junior Category of the Turkish Karting Championship
following a season highlighted by first and second places.
Finishing his karting carrier, Selim left two very important records behind :
Tuzla race track record in Junior Category: 42.0 seconds
Out of 70 races in his entire karting carrier, he abandoned a race only once, which was
due to a mechanical failure.
2000
In his second season, at the age of 14, he finished many races in the first place, with a
few second places and won all available titles, among others Turkish Junior Karting
Champion and Istanbul Karting Champion.
1999
Selim finished fourth in his first race of his carrier. He won his first trophy by taking
the third place in his seccond race. In his fourth race he took the pole position in front
of his experienced rivals. At the end of the season he was third at Junior Category of the
Turkish Karting Championship. This was the signal of his successful career. |
